3 Mobile SEO Tips to Help Your Site Thrive
We live in a world where everyone has tiny computers in their pockets, and information can be accessed with more ease and speed than ever before. In fact, in the first quarter of 2021, mobile devices generated over half of all global website traffic. Now more than ever, people are relying on their phones to seek out information and access websites, which makes it all the more important to ensure that your site is optimized for mobile. Many of the tried and true SEO best practices that we all know and love contribute to how well your site performs on mobile, but there are a few key things to really keep an eye on to ensure that your site is fully optimized for mobile.
Page experience
What exactly contributes to page experience? While this is something that may change over time, Google currently lists these 4 signals as the most important for a good page experience:
Core Web Vitals
Mobile-friendliness
Pages served over HTTPS
No intrusive interstitials
Luckily, in addition to listing these out the powers that be over at Google have also supplied us with some helpful resources to help spot any issues with overall page experience and how to improve them with Google Search Console, or for a more in-depth assessment, PageSpeed Insights. Google Search Console can provide a wealth of information about your site, but the mobile usability and overall experience section can really come in handy here. It’s also probably not a bad idea to run some of your most important pages through PageSpeed Insights every once in a while to find out where your site may be lacking and where you can make improvements.
2. Optimizing for voice search
Convenience is key, and there’s definitely something to be said for how convenient it is to be able to verbally ask your phone a question and have it answered just seconds later. Optimizing website content to be more likely to appear for informational queries gives your site a far better chance to come out ahead of competitors. Use longer tail keywords and question and answer formatting when possible. Keep in mind the potential of your site appearing in a featured snippet for a given search query.
3. Local search optimization
Take advantage of tools like Google My Business and make sure that all of your information including your address, hours, phone number, and photos are up to date to give your business a better local presence. Encourage happy customers to leave a review, as Google typically lists the highest-rated businesses first. Additionally, including individualized location pages that are optimized on your website can be another way to reach people in various service areas and give your site a better chance of ranking for local consumers.
Staying up to date with the ever-changing algorithm and updates from Google can be overwhelming and time-consuming, but hopefully, this brief breakdown of a few mobile SEO best practices can provide a good starting point for some easy steps to take to give your site the best chance of success in our mobile dominated world.
